"The Initial Idea"

About a year ago, my mom flew to Southern California to visit us for my daughter Mia’s second birthday. While she was here, I shared with her the many books that Mia was currently interested in. Mia particularly loved books concerning emotions - The Grumpy Monkey, Little Monkey Calms Down, The Rabbit Listened. She was fascinated with the page where a character was sad or upset, and loved seeing how the character eventually recovered from their unpleasant feelings. I was also working hard to integrate Mandarin Chinese into Mia’s life by reading some bilingual children’s books. While I am conversationally fluent in Mandarin, I cannot easily read the characters, so I depended on the few children’s books I could find that included the Mandarin characters and phonetic pinyin that allowed me to read Mandarin out loud. I lamented that there were no books that combined the two - Mandarin, pinyin, and any books that included emotional topics.

Then the idea occurred - what if I made such a book?

My mom and husband thought this was a brilliant idea. I had scoured the internet for these books ever since I found out I was pregnant, so I was fairly certain the number of available books was very limited. I could actually use my psychological knowledge, my experience as a mother, and my Chinese background to create something wonderful and useful for my daughter - and for many other parents and children!

So, The Mindful Peach Co. was born. It is wonderful and exciting that a year later (almost to the day), my husband and I are submitting our first order for our bilingual children’s book to be printed! We hope you love Eden’s story and that you find it helpful in integrating more emotional vocabulary (in multiple languages) into your families lives!
